Two days, mostly German sites - a model itinerary
Having two days for the German story allows us to cover the city's highlights comprehensively. We also touch upon Jewish aspects, but the focus of our tour remains on the Germans and their chequered journey to democracy.
Our itinerary will include:
Brandenburg Gate
Checkpoint Charlie
The East Side Gallery (the longest original segment remaining of the Berlin Wall, with paintings of 118 artists from around the world)
Unter den Linden
The Book Burning square with its challenging memorial of an empty library
The government district with the Reichstag and the Chancellor's Office (outside)
Potsdamer Platz and its architecture (including the famous Sony Center)
Gendarmenmarkt
Wilhelmstraße - the former center of the Nazi regime
Humboldt University, including the gallery of Nobel laureates
The Soviet War Memorial
The National Memorial of Germany (“Neue Wache”), which they created to commemorate their own soldiers
Museum Island with the Berlin Cathedral and the remaking of the royal palace (typically we will not go into the museums, which you can also do on your own)
Berlin’s Victory Column, which - oddly - still bears the fingerprints of Adolf Hitler and Albert Speer (his favorite architect)
The famous Kurfürstendamm avenue - the center of West-Berlin
Bellevue - The Presidential Palace
Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church – West Berlin’s most known icon
The last communist watchtower that still exists at the very center of the city
The Memorial for the Gypsies
The Memorial for the Homosexuals
... and that's not all :)
Our exact route depends on our meeting point, which is typically your hotel. Please contact us for further planning.
